This Week's Reading

Okay, so I don't really know why I titled this post "This Week's Reading" because basically the only thing I read this week was books 2-4 of The Odyssey. I REALLY REALLY REALLY want to read the Hunger Games, but when I put a hold on it at the library a few weeks ago there were 53 people before me! So if anyone has a copy they can loan to me, that would be awesome!! I don't really want to start a different book and then finally get the Hunger Games because I can't read two choice books at once. I get everything confused and then I never end up finishing one of them.

Anyways, the Odyssey was a lot easier to understand this week. :). I didn't have to do quite as much re-reading and I think that's mostly because of the 'active reading'. Writing my questions and thoughts down really helped me think and understand.

I don't really like how conversations in this book are usually a paragraph (or more!) said by one person and then the other person responds in the same way. And most of the time people are just ordering each other aroud. "You will do this, and then you will do this." So on and so forth. It just doesn't seem like a real conversation and it gets boring. I think that might be becasue the story was told over and over through generations and finally somebody wrote it down.

Also, it seems kind of weird that everybody lets complete strangers into their home and feeds them a feast gives them gifts and then has them stay overnight. But I guess that's just how they are.

Other than that, I enjoyed reading The Odyssey this week (although it did take me a REALLY long time!) Can't wait to see what happens next...

  2. It's so funny how everyone let's everyone into their homes... If that happened nowadays, a lot of people would have restraining orders/ cop surveillence, etc. on their homes.
